October 17th, 2008 Fake antivirus programs claim 30 million victims
More than 30 million Internet users have fallen victim to fake antivirus programs that snatch up people’s money and personal information, security research firm PandaLabs has announced. The phenomenon may not be a new one, but it’s growing more and more popular as the scammers are getting more crafty. There are now over 7,000 variants of this type of adware, says PandaLabs, and the number of infections caused by it is increasing rapidly.

LGR Telecommunications has a 310-TB Oracle (NSDQ: ORCL) data warehouse that’s used daily by 2,500 people at one of its telecom carrier clients. The warehouse powers an LGR service, called CDRlive, that gives its carrier customers access to call data records. It’s updated round the clock, in near-real time, and is available for query 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

September 22nd, 2008 SQL Beta Exam
The Microsoft Learning Group announced on its Beta Exam blog a new exam for database developers. Exam 70-433 TS: Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Database Development, registration opens on Sept. 19, with beta testing slated from Sept. 22 to Oct. 10. While in beta, candidates should refer to Exam 71-433.
Exam 70-433 counts toward a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: SQL Server 2008 Database Development certification. The exam is also a requirement for those planning to step up to the higher-level Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Database Developer 2008 certification that is planned for availability early next year.

Important Safety Notice
Today Apple announced the Apple Ultracompact USB Power Adapter Exchange program.
Apple has determined that under certain conditions the new ultracompact Apple USB power adapter’s metal prongs can break off and remain in a power outlet, creating a risk of electric shock. We have received reports of detached blades involving a very small percentage of the adapters sold, but no injuries have been reported.
The ultracompact USB power adapters were supplied with every iPhone 3G sold in the following countries, and may also have been purchased separately as an accessory:

It appears that the latest updates to McAfee VirusScan blocks the WinVNC program from running. From what I have tested, it looks like it is detecting the vnchooks.dll file as a Generic PUP.X unwanted program.
According to McAfee the DAT release that comes out today will correct this problem.
