LogMeIn on Tuesday introduced in beta software that provides remote control of an Internet-connected Mac or PC through an Apple iPhone or iPod Touch.
To control a computer using the new Ignition software, the remote machine must also be running LogMeIn software. The company provides people and IT departments with free and premium applications for accessing computers to access files and programs or to fix problems.

Faced with the question of whether to build its European search technology center in France, Germany or the U.K., Microsoft’s answer is “all three,” CEO Steve Ballmer said during an event in Paris on Thursday.
Microsoft had been hinting since earlier this year that it would pick one of the three countries to build a research center to develop new search technologies.

VMware will gain a step in the race to virtualize desktops by licensing Wyse Technology’s enhancements to Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) protocol.
The enhancements make it possible to run multi-media presentations over RDP, such as voice combined with images, something that RDP cannot do by itself at a rate that is acceptable to desktop users.

Intel is aiming the Atom at so-called “netbooks,” which many analysts define as sub-$500 lightweight PCs with screen sizes of 10 inches or less.
Intel has started shipping dual-core Atom processors, which are designed for mini-notebooks. Known as the Atom 330, the latest member of Intel’s smallest line of CPUs features a 1.6-GHz processing core and 1 MB of Level 2 cache. The chip uses a maximum of 8 watts of power.
